Bhubaneswar Records Highest Temperature In 50-Year


BHUBANESWAR: The capital city of Odisha continued to boil under the scorching sun for the second day as Bhubaneswar on Monday recorded 42.2 degree Celsius, the highest ever temperature in the month of March since 1952.

Bhubaneswar had recorded 41 degree Celsius on Sunday, the highest temperature across the state.

While the rise in temperature threw normal life out of gear in most parts of the state, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regional director, Bhubaneswar, Sarat Chandra Sahu said the heat wave is likely to continue till March 28.

The temperature remained above 40 degrees in four towns in the state including Bhubaneswar forcing the people to stay in their rooms. Other places that recorded above 40 degree Celsius are Angul (40.1), Balangir (40) and Titlagarh (40.5).

Other places that recorded increase temperature are Balasore (37), Chandbali (39.7), Cuttack (39), Baripada (37.6), Jharsuguda (39.5), Keonjhar (36.7), Sambalpur (39.2), Sundergarh (39), Hirakud (39.6), Talcher (39.4), Bhawanipatna (39.7), Phulbani (37) and Sonepur (37.8).
