10 more students to face action due to ragging in campus

BHUBANESWAR: The Disciplinary Committee of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) on Friday decided to rusticate five students for a period of one year over alleged ragging on the campus.

The students to be rusticated include undergraduate students of the second, third and fourth year and few post graduate students. Besides, disciplinary action will also be taken against 10 more students in the case.

This was informed by OUAT vice chancellor Manoranjan Kar.

“We are going to rusticate the culprits. There were allegations of ragging against 15 students. We are examining the allegations. We have decided to rusticate five students. They will be rusticated for a period of one year,” said Kar.

He said they would announce the names tomorrow.

‘We are examining the allegations against the others named in the complaint,” said Kar.

Notably, tension prevailed in the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) when the first year students of OUAT’s College of Forestry on Tuesday last alleged ragging by their seniors and gheraoed the Dean’s office demanding action and also lodged an FIR with the Khandagiri Police Station on the day.

In the FIR, filed by some irate boarders of the Pathani Samanta Hostel of OUAT, it has been alleged that they were brutally beaten by their seniors on November 19 night following which two of them have been seriously injured.

However, the university authorities and anti-ragging committee had taken no action irrespective of repeated complaints.
