BALASORE: The Odisha police on Tuesday arrested television actress Pralipta Priyadrasini Samal alias Jessy for abetment of suicide of tele actor and choreographer Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja, who according to police, committed suicide while returning from an event at Bhadrak on February 6 night.
However, police said that event manager Pralay Jena and driver Dhaneswar had no role to play in the death of Raja.
Rourkela SP Niti Sekhar said, “Jessy had instigated Raja to commit suicide after both entered into a quarrel while returning from an event. She has been arrested for abetment of suicide (under Section 306 of IPC).”
Jessy has been forwarded to Soro court while the bail plea of the actress has been rejected by the court, said police.Jessy has been sent to 15-day judicial custody after being arrested.
The Balasore SP said Jessy used to mock Raja over his professional failure and that day, Raja could not bear the misbehaviour and mocking forcing him to take the extreme step.
“When we verified the background under what circumstances the incident took place, we found that deceased actor’s girlfriend had taunted him in connection with his professional success,” said the SP.
The SP said Raja had gone with Jessy to attend the event while he was not invited. “Jessy was given Rs 27,000 by the organisers while Raja was given only Rs 2000,” Sekhar added.
When asked about conducting polygraph test on Jessy and others, Balasore SP Niti Sekhar said, “We will conduct polygraph test on a later date.”
Notably, after Raja died falling off a bridge on his way back to home on a fateful day, it came to notice that the trio was accompanying him. The incident took place at Taranka Tipisigadia in Balasore while they were returning from a stage show.
Raja had an argument with Jessy while returning in a car from the show, following which the former told the car driver to stop the vehicle near the bridge and went outside. When he didn’t return after minutes, the driver went outside and found him lying seriously injured under the bridge.
Raja was initially rushed to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries.
