BHUBANESWAR: Ace athletes Srabani Nanda and Dutee Chand were on Monday appointed in two state PSUs for their outstanding achievements in various national and international games.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik honoured the two athletes for their outstanding achievements in various athletic meets at national and international levels, in New Delhi on Monday.
He expressed his pleasure while offering letters of appointment to Srabani Nanda as Junior Manager in Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Limited (OHPC) and to Dutee Chand as Assistant Manager in Odisha Mining Corporation Limited (OMC) under the new Rule.
Another sprinter Amiya Mallick, however, did not get any government appointment even though his performance continued to be good.
The Chief Minister stated that the state has adopted yet another Rule this year for direct recruitment of outstanding sports persons in Executive capacities in different state government undertakings.
He mentioned that for the last decade and a half, it has been the considered policy of the state government to nurture sports talents through quality training and proper infrastructure both in urban and rural locations with a particular emphasis on backwards and tribal areas of the state.
The Chief Minister informed that the state adopted a Rule for direct recruitment of meritorious sportspersons of the state in Odisha Police last year to recognise their outstanding performance and to provide them with the desired financial security.
And, under the said Rule, 59 sports persons have been provided employment till now, he added.
While presenting them with their appointment letters, the Chief Minister wished them all success in their sporting careers and expressed his confidence that they will represent the country in Olympics and earn laurels for the state and the country in future.
