BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has separated Plus II colleges from degree colleges to bring reform in the education sector, said an official on Monday.
The government also decided to introduce board examination in Plus II first year from the academic year 2016-17, he added.
Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi on Monday declared this after getting the approval of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“Plus II colleges have been separated from degree colleges and also from the higher education department. Now, the School and Mass Education department would manage the Plus II colleges,” said Panigrahi.
He said a separate directorate of higher secondary education would be set up soon to look after the Plus II colleges.
The state government took the decision to avail about Rs 100 crore central assistance every year for the junior colleges under Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) that would help developing infrastructure in the colleges.
Sources said the state has 233 colleges that impart both Plus II and degree courses simultaneously.
