BHUBANESWAR: The Opposition Congress and BJP on Sunday slammed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for not meeting the victims of the Kandhamal encounter incident.
Even though several commissions and different political party leaders visited Gumdumaha village, where five persons were killed during an anti-Maoist operation by security personnel, the Chief Minister chose to stay in the capital city.
The leader of opposition Narasingh Mishra said the Chief Minister should visit Kandhamal and interact with the victims if he thinks himself as a political leader.
BJP also raised the similar issue stating that the Chief Minister is shedding crocodile tears for the victims.
“It seems the Chief Minister does not care about the victims. Five innocent villagers were killed, but he preferred to stay in Bhubaneswar after announcing a paltry compensation,” said a BJP leader.
He said the Chief Minister could visit Capital Hospital to know the health condition of girl students who were injured in a balloon blast near Naveen Niwas, but he cannot visit Kandhamal.
Notably, ten students were injured in a balloon blast during the celebration of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s 70th birthday.
The youngsters were on their way to Naveen Nivas to greet the Chief Minister.
Kandhamal has turned out to be the epicentre of politics following the killing of innocent tribals. Recently, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Rameswar Oraon, National Commission for Scheduled Castes PL Punia and a three-member team constituted by BJP president Amit Shah visited Kandhamal.
Besides, delegations of BJP, BJD and Congress had visited the village.
