Two medical colleges to start functioning from 2017


Bhubaneswar: Two new medical colleges at Koraput and Baripada will start functioning from the academic year 2017-18, said an official on Thursday.

While the construction of both colleges has been completed, the principals have been appointed for the medical colleges, said the official.

Chief secretary AP Padhi on Wednesday took a review meeting on the progress of the institutions.

Officials said superintendents will also be posted at the two colleges which have 100 MBBS seats and 300 beds each. The government will soon start recruiting teaching and non-teaching staff along with doctors and nurses for the colleges.

A Medical Council of India team will inspect the colleges soon, the official said.

Notably, the state government has proposed to construct five medical college and hospitals at Koraput, Baripada Bolangir, Balasore and Puri.
