Rishi murder case: BMC Mayor may depose before police for questioning

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police on Tuesday said BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena might be called for interrogation if required in connection with the death of engineering student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said if the investigating officer feels the need, then police will seek Mayor’s physical deposition for interrogation.

“The investigating officer is conducting investigation and statements of some friends of Rishi have been recorded. We have sought report from the doctors to take forward the investigation,” said the DCP.

“We have also summoned mother and sister of Rishi to appear before them for questioning,” Bhoi said.

Police sources said the viscera reports suggested that Rishi’s death could be due to excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs.

“The police have decided to seek a second opinion of doctors before arriving at a conclusion on the cause of death. As the investigation progresses, more witnesses are likely to be quizzed within a couple of days,” said police.
