Balasore: In a shocking incident, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have mercilessly beaten up a specially-abled man at Balasore railway station in Odisha, video of which has gone viral on social media.
In the video clip, three RPF personnel and another man are seen hitting the specially challenged with their boots, who was lying on the ground on platform No 4 with his crutches.
Sources said the disabled person was caught by some people standing at the Balasore station while he was trying to flee after stealing the mobile from the train passenger at Platform No-4. Later, the physically challenged was handed over to the RPF jawans.
The incident occurred on January 3. However, the incident came to light on Sunday.
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday directed the Director General (DG) of RPF to probe into the incident.
Railway Minister tweeted that Railway Protection Force (RPF) DG has been directed to probe into the matter.
Railway SP Sanjay Kaushal said action would be taken against the RPF staff if they are found guilty.
Meanwhile, human rights activist Jayant Das filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and urged to direct the Indian Railway to take strong legal action against the two erring Railway Police persons seen in the video by dismissing them from service and by registering criminal cases against them for violating the fundamental rights of the citizens.
