Bhubaneswar: The long wait for international flight operations connecting Odisha to the world is finally over as the Air Asia started booking for the tickets from Thursday.

Air Asia will fly to Malaysia from Bhubaneswar at lower price.

Three years after getting the international status, the international flight from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Malaysia is set to be operated from April 26.

The Air Asia offers lowest fare for flight from Bhubaneswar to Malaysia at cost of Rs 999 (all inclusive fare). The flight between Bhubaneswar and Malaysia will be operated four days a week. It will take around 3 hours to reach the destination from Bhubaneswar. The travellers have to book their tickets by March 5 to avail the discount.

The Bhubaneswar airport authority has also provided the permissions following Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to Air Asia.

As Air Asia is going to start the ground staff appointment process at Bhubaneswar airport, there will be system for ticket booking, check-in counter, luggage scanning and other stuffs at the airport. The security survey will be concluded very soon, the Air Asia said.

Recently, Air Asia on February 17 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Odisha government in connection with beginning of direct flights to/from Malaysian capital – Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier last year, the Odisha government had allowed the Thai Air Asia to receive subsidy support of Rs 1.70 lakh per round trip for starting air service operations from Bhubaneswar to Singapore/Bangkok/ Kuala Lumpur.

Odisha’s tourism sector will get a boost

The frequent fliers to South East Asian countries will have an added option to fly from here. The state’s tourism economy, trade, hospitality sector and cultural exchange will see an upward trend owing the international connectivity with the Temple City.
