City buses to have GPS-enabled device

Highlights

  • A new app for city buses will be developed for benefit of commuters
  • It will help the passengers as well as the BPTSL to know the location of the buses

Bhubaneswar: The city buses will be monitored through a GPS-enabled device called Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), said an official.

The Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services Limited (BPTSL) has decided to install the GPS-enabled device to get real-time data of the buses itinerary. It will help the passengers as well as the BPTSL to know the location of the buses.

Sources said the GPS devices will have a sensor (chip) attached to it so that it transmits the data to the central server with the exact location. The GPS will help send location inputs.

The GPS-enabled location in android mobile phones will help the commuters know the running status of the bus.
BPTSL will design a new app for city buses that will help the citizens know which routes the bus is coming and when it will reach the pick-up location.
