Bhubaneswar: Founder of Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) and former BJD Rajya Sabha MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after his health condition deteriorated.
He has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai late on Thursday night.
According to sources, Mohapatra, who was admitted to the hospital some months ago after he suffered from lungs cancer, was shifted to the ICU and is on ventilator support after his health condition deteriorated last evening.
Mohapatra started his career as an IAS officer and was principal secretary to former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. Once upon a time, he was considered as the mastermind and the proxy leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
However, he was suspended from the party following an alleged coup attempt against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in June 2012, while the latter was in London.
Mohapatra had resigned as BJD’s parliamentary group leader in Rajya Sabha on 4 August 2012.
The bureaucrat turned politician attributed his resignation to absence of communication between him and BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
