Odisha border sealed, high-alert in Malkangiri after Naxal attack

Bhubaneswar: A day after 300-400 heavily armed Maoists ambushed a CRPF contingent killing 25 troopers in Chhattisgarh, the Odisha police on Tuesday sounded a high-alert in Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

“The incident took place around 45 km away from Odisha border. SOG, DVF, CRPF and BSF are conducting a joint operation and trying to press out whoever is here inside. The border has already been sealed. We will not allow anybody to enter in our border,” said DGP KB Singh.

Singh said there was every possibility of Maoist ultras preferring to take shelter in Odisha as Maharashtra has already sealed its border with Chhattisgarh.

“The spot of occurrence is far away from our border near to Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli. However, we are on high alert,” the DGP added.

“High alert has been sounded in Malkangiri. The whole district has been put on extra vigil,” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.
