Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a report from the state police over torture of a minor boy in the presence of police in Udala of Mayurbhanj district.
Acting on the petition filled by the rights activist Akhand, the Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police of Mayurbhanj to inquire into the matter and submit a report within four weeks.
Notably, a minor boy was thrashed mercilessly in the presence of police for allegedly stealing money near High School Chhaka in Udala on May 2.
The police reached the spot late and the boy was even manhandled in presence of police. Police has failed to rescue the boy and people dragged the minor boy in the road and tortured. The boy even fainted in the road, said Akhand.
