Odisha govt issues advisory on WannaCry ransomware

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday issued an advisory on WannaCry ransomware to prevent the cyber attack in the state.

The Electronics & Information Technology Department has advised government officials and people to maintain updated anti-virus software on all systems and use genuine software/OS for regular updates and fixes.

It has also advised performing regular backups of all critical information to limit the impact of data or system loss and to help expedite the recovery process.

A meeting of the IT Department in this regard was today held at the State Secretariat after reports of Berhampur city hospital’s information management system getting affected with WannaCry ransomware.

“A preliminary team visited the Berhampur city hospital and they have sent us data regarding it. Another technical team comprising experts from IIIT, NIC and OCAC will also visit the hospital for further investigation,” said Information and Technology Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera after the meeting.
