Rainfall in Odisha likely as depression intensifies


Bhubaneswar: The depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression during next 24 hours bringing the shower to several parts of Odisha on Thursday.

Rains are likely to occur in Odisha for Thursday evening as the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal will intensify into a deep depression in the next 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
“The system is likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression during next 24 hours. However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts,” said an IMD bulletin.

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places in the coastal adjoining Koraput, Gajapati and Malkangiri districts during next 24 hours and thereafter widespread rain or thundershower in coastal districts with many places in interior districts till December 10.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Khorda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Malkangiri & Koraput very likely to occur in subsequent 48 hours, it added.

Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from 7th evening to 9th December morning and decrease thereafter.

IMD has warned the fishermen along and off north Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts are advised not to venture into sea till 9th December morning as Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from 7th evening to 9th December morning.
