Kakatpur BDO arrested for accepting bribe from junior engineer in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state Vigilance on Saturday arrested Kakatpur BDO in Puri district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000 from a junior engineer.

Kakatpur BDO Santosh Kumar Sahoo was caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs. 18,000 from Subrat Kumar Barik, who is working as a junior engineer in the block.

Sahoo had taken the bribe for the release of security amount of Rs.69,000 towards the execution of cement concrete roadworks.

Barik is working as JE, Kakatpur Block since 2013. He had executed some road works and after successful execution of these works, he had applied before Kakatpur BDO for the release of security amount of Rs.69,000. But Sahoo had demanded Rs.18,000 as bribe from Barik.

Finding no other option, he reported the matter before Vigilance SP, Bhubaneswar Division for taking legal action.

Accordingly, a trap was laid and the BDO was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officers in his office room at Kakatpur Block office while demanding and accepting the bribe.
