Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued warning of thunderstorm and lightning for six districts of Odisha.
The alert was issued following the feedbacks from the Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries.
The IMD has advised the people in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Angul to stay alert till 8.15 pm. People have been asked to take shelter in nearby buildings or other safe locations.
Lightning and thunderstorm accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind reaching up to a speed of 50 to 60 kmph will occur at these districts.
Lightning has become a major disaster in Odisha that claims more than 400 human lives on an average per year.
The IMD further informed that the day temperatures will fall across the state excluding one or two places. Similar weather conditions will continue till May 4.
The temperature is likely to increase further from May 5, said the IMD.
