Bhubaneswar: NIFT-Bhubaneswar witnessed a landmark celebration with 179 students from across six different disciplines graduating here on Wednesday.

It was also a day for the award-winning gold medalist students of this year. Eight students bagged the gold medal this year at the convocation ceremony of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

While Swapnil Pateria got ‘The Student of the Year’ Award, Aman Raj got the ‘NIFT Extraordinary Service” Award.

For each department, NIFT offers one Best Academic Performance Award. This year, Swapnil Pateria from PG-MFM, Pragya Ujjwali from BDes (Textile Design), Rashi Padhiyar from BDes (Accessory Design), Smriti Johar from BDes (Fashion Design), Annie Bhardwaj from BDes (Fashion Communication) and Sandeep Mohanty from BFTech have received Best Academic Performance Award from their respective departments.

Odisha Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal said NIFT plays a very critical role right from its inception in making the Indian textiles, apparel and fashion industry competitive and ever growing.

He said that the graduating students should keep on learning even they have completed their basic education from NIFT in order to contribute more to the industry, academia and society at large.

Sanjay Shrivastava, NIFT Director informed that with a short span of time, NIFT Bhubaneswar has been able to appear among the list of top 10 fashion institutions of India.

He said this is not only remarkable but shows the commitment of the NIFT fraternity at Bhubaneswar.

Director informed that placements for this year have also been almost 100% with some international offers from brands such as Landmark Group (Lifestyle), Epic Group, Must Garments etc.

Most of the regular Indian recruiters such as Arvind Lifestyle, Landmark Group (India), Future Group (Bigbazaar, Central etc.), Tridents Industries, Reliance Brands and Retail, Shahi Exports, Decathlon Sports etc. were also present on campus this year and largely recruited students, he added.

“There is an increasing tendency among students to startup from the campus nowadays and many students are availing the benefits of startup Odisha and Startup India,” he said.
