Bhubaneswar: The students of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Saturday resorted to a road blockade protesting against the alleged ‘molestation’ of a girl student of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
NIFT is located on the campus of KIIT.
The students blocked the KIIT-Sikharchandi road from the morning and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in misbehaving the girl.
The students alleged that a first-year student of NIFT was molested by some unidentified youths at around 2 am when the girl was on the way to her campus.
Even though the girl screamed for help, the security guards deployed near a ladies hostel of KIIT did not come to her rescue, said an agitating student.
They also alleged that the warden of the girls’ hostel did not help the girl.
However, the commissionerate police denied that such incident has happened.
“No incident of rape has happened in KIIT campus as alleged by the students. We have recorded the statement of the girl. Besides, we are examining the CCTV footage to ascertain the truth,” said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrat Bhoi.
He said that no formal complaint had been lodged with police so far.
The NIFT authorities have remained tight-lipped over the incident.
Eight platoons of police personnel have been deployed inside the campus to maintain law and order situation.
