Jio surpasses 30% subscriber market share mark in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Reliance Jio continued its excellent record of being the most preferred mobile service provider in Odisha by adding over 3.15 lakh new subscribers in May 2019.

Jio also achieved over 30% subscriber market share in the state, as per the latest subscriber data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

JIO added the highest 3.15 lakh new subscribers in the month followed by a distant second Bharti Airtel, which added a marginal 2345 subscribers in May 2019.

All other mobile service providers lost subscribers in the month which witnessed an overall increase of 1.83 lakh to total mobile subscriber base in the state.

It is worth mentioning here that Reliance Jio has been continuously adding highest number of subscribers in Odisha every month, fuelled by its all 4G network, fast expansion of its 4G network coverage in the hitherto unconnected hinterlands and the hugely popular affordable JioPhone – India ka Smartphone.

With the subscriber data released for May 2019, the overall mobile subscriber base in the state in the first five months of 2019 came down by nearly 6 lakhs.

During these five months Reliance Jio topped in adding subscribers with over 17.2 lakhs new subscribers joining the all 4G network of JIO.

Among other operators, Vodafone Idea lost over 12.3 lakh subscribers followed by Bharti Airtel which lost over 10.6 lakh subscribers in the first five months of 2019. Apart from JIO, BSNL was the only other operators to have added subscribers in these five-month period adding nearly 2 lakhs to its subscriber base. 

Nationally also, Reliance Jio has now become the 2nd largest mobile service provider in terms of subscribers by relegating Bharti Airtel to 3rd position, revealed the TRAI subscriber data for May 2019. As on 31st May 2019, the total subscriber base of JIO reached 32.29 crores with 27.8% subscriber market share, adds the report.

JIO also continued to add highest number of subscribers in May 2019 by adding over 81.8 lakh subscribers, while Vodafone Idea lost nearly 57 lakh subscribers in the month, followed by Bharti Airtel which lost over 15 lakh subscribers in the same period.

Apart from JIO, BSNL added a marginal 2125 new subscribers in the month whereas all other service provider witnessed decline in subscriber base bringing down overall mobile subscriber base in the country by 4.38 lakhs in May 2019.

It may be noted here that, as per the recent financial report released by TRAI on the sector for the quarter ending March 2019, along with over 50% market share of the adjusted gross revenue across the sector in Odisha, Reliance Jio continued to be the market leader in gross revenue with the highest 42.4% market share in the state, leaving all other service providers way behind.
