Justice BP Das appointed OHRC chairperson

Bhubaneswar: Justice BP Das was on Thursday appointed as the chairperson of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC).

Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal approved the appointment of Justice Bimal Prasad Das, a former judge of Orissa High Court as OHRC chairman.

The Odisha government appointed a fulltime chairperson after seven years.

Besides, advocate Asim Amitabh Das has been appointed as the OHRC member.

Thousands of cases have piled up in OHRC as the commission had gone headless.

After the retirement of acting chairperson Justice BK Misra on August 16 last year, the rights body has been left headless.
