Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday cancelled students’ union elections across colleges and universities in the state for the second consecutive year.
The of Higher Education Department in a letter to the vice-chancellors of the state-run universities and colleges informed that the department took the decision in the larger interest of the students’ community in the state.
“In the larger interest of the students’ community, it has been decided by the State Government that Students’ Union Election shall not be conducted in State Universities and Degree Colleges coming under the administrative control of Higher Education Department, in 2019”, said the communiqué.
“An alternative procedure for nominating students’ representatives to various bodies of Universities/Colleges, where students’ representation is required, shall be prescribed subsequently”, it added.
Last year,
the state government had cancelled the students’ union elections across
colleges and universities in the state due to cyclone Titli.
