Odisha sex racket: Flesh trade continues to flourish

Bhubaneswar: Sex racket in Odisha continues unabated while police are having a tough time arresting the pimps running their prostitution businesses in the state.

The pimps are taking advantage of social media and several other online platforms to seal sex deals with clients to avoid the eagle eye of the police.

They are using Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp like social media to run sex rackets in Orissa.

Using social media, the prospective customers are being shown the photographs of call girls.

Recently, a sex racket operating at a rented house near FCI Chhak in Rayagada town has been busted. The police also busted a sex racket in Odisha’s Rourkela city in the first week of September.

While the pimps are operating flesh trades across Odisha, it has also flourished in the capital city Bhubaneswar. One can find the call girls waiting for customers at public places like bus stops, railway stations, AG Square, Unit II Market, Khandagiri, Nayapalli, Rasulgarh, Palasuni, Kalpana and Infocity areas during the evening.

The girls, who hail from different parts of the country, are engaged in the Odisha sex racket.  

Sources said the pimps engage girls from foreign countries and from the neighbouring West Bengal.

In August this year, the Commissionerate Police had busted a sex racket running from a lodge in Bhubaneswar and rescued three women engaged in the flesh trade.

“What we found that the pimps are communicating through social media to run their businesses. However, we are conducting raids after getting reliable information. In recent past, we have arrested several customers and the kingpins running flesh trades in Odisha,” said a police official.

While the women rescued during the raids are sent to the rehab centres, the girls most often continue in the profession even after coming out of rehab centres, said police.
