Odisha govt targets to extend KALIA Yojana to 75 lakh families


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has set a target to extend support to 50 lakh small and marginal farm families as well as 25 lakh landless agriculture households under KALIA Yojana, informed Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Friday.

Addressing the first day of the Budget session of Odisha Assembly, the Governor said the government implemented KALIA Yojana from 2018-19.

“My Government implemented KALIA programme from 2018-19 to benefit the low-income group population connected to farming, with various packages, along with KALIA Scholarship scheme to support children of KALIA beneficiaries pursuing professional/technical courses,” he added.

He said the government lays special emphasis on the development of agriculture sector through various interventions supported by a very comprehensive and more inclusive State Agriculture Policy.

“The income of the farmers has more than doubled in the past, and my Government is poised to multiply farmers’ income with more proactive developmental interventions in line with the national agenda of Doubling Farmer’s Income,” said the Governor.

“For achieving the highest level of farmers’ satisfaction, my Government has brought the Services of Agriculture under the 5T and Mo Sarkar from December, 2019 with the objective of enhancing the delivery,” he added.

Lal said that the state government believes in people’s participation in administration and in this direction the programs like ‘5Ts’ and ‘Mo Sarkar’ are important enterprises.

“Showing its commitment to the all-round development of the farmers in the state, the State Government has brought all agricultural policies under its 5Ts and ‘Mo Sarkar’ programmes from December, 2019. To expedite the process ‘Mo Sarkar Desks’ have been set up at each district of Odisha,” said the Governor.

“In the year, my government has set a target to irrigate 1.84 lakh hectare farmlands in the State. In addition, it has decided to introduce underground pipeline system for irrigation which would replace the traditional canal system for efficacy, said the Governor.
