Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 cases continued to increase in Odisha as it reported a spike of 214 Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in the last two months in the state.
Out of the fresh cases, as many as 126 were detected in quarantine centres while the rest 88 are local cases.
Khordha district reported the maximum number of 33 cases followed bySundargarh (27), 20 each in Bolangir and Cuttack, Bargarh (13) and 10 each in Dhenkanal and Sambalpur district.
The total number of posiptive cases increased to 3,39,460 while 3,36,337 persons have recovered. The Covid deaths remained at 1919, informed the Health department.
Meanwhile, a night curfew was imposed in Nabarangpur district from 8 PM to 6 AM to prevent the spread of the virus.
Nabarangpur is the second district in the state after Malkangiri to impose a night curfew.
The district administration of Nabarangpur has also prohibited any processions including marriage procession and banned the congregation of more than five people in any place.
The state government had already announced a ceiling of not more than 200 people in any marriage related functions and 50 people in death-related rituals throughout the state from March 26 next.
DMET CBK Mohanty said the Covid19 situation in Odisha is better as compared to other states.
The UK strain was detected in December, last year and now there is no threat from that strain, he said.
