Disaster and pandemic management in school, college curriculum in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: The council of ministers meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik passed a resolution to make disaster and pandemic management a part of school and college curriculum.

Every student, elected representative, government official, Misson Shakti members will be trained in disaster and pandemic preparedness.

“This is a historic step and will enable and empower our future generations to withstand the vagaries of nature whether its biological or climatic. Odisha will stand out in saving people’s lives. It flows from our realisation that community preparedness is key to disaster management,” said the Chief Minister.

The meeting of the council of ministers was held with the completion of two years in the fifth term of BJD government.

The government has decided to train every Government employee on the fundamental nature of different kinds of disaster and pandemic management.

Government jobs and recruitment will have a mandatory syllabus on disaster and pandemic management.

 The role of our elected representatives changes significantly during times of distress. From ward members to Chief Minister everyone will be trained on disaster and pandemic management.

The government will train members of our Mission sakti groups, vana surakya samitis, and other community based organizations and equip them with the knowledge required to manage disaster and pandemics.

 Basically, the objective is to have a Yodha in every home of Odisha.

A task force will be formed to carry forward this mission of building a disaster and pandemic resilient Odisha. This will be the biggest preparation for future emergencies.
