Cuttack: Current inmates of the historic East Hostel under Ravenshaw University, in association with the East Hostel Alumni Association (EAA) organized a blood donation camp on the campus of the hostel on Friday.
The camp was jointly inaugurated by the members of EAA-Santosh Dash, Sashanka Sekhar Rout, Dr Debashish Mishra and Santosh Kumar Sethi.
Keeping in mind a wide participation and adhering to the COVID appropriate behaviour guidelines, the mega camp was organized in collaboration of two blood banks, i.e. Capital Hospital and Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital Blood Banks. In this blood donation camp a record number of 505 units of blood was collected. While by the Capital Hospital Blood Bank collected 235 units, Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital Blood Bank collected 270 units.
A massive signature campaign and outreach activity by the boarders has resulted in having 505 units of blood collected through the camp at East Hostel.
Hostel Superintendent Dr Gurudev Meher, old alumni of the hostel Manjit Mitra, members of the EAA, many students and guests on the occasion also donated blood voluntarily on the occasion. Refreshments for the donors were organized and a group of volunteers from the boarders of the hostel took the charge to coordinate and manage the event in a smooth member.
It can be mentioned here that the blood donation camp was organized as a sideline event before the Centenary Celebration of the hostel on December 24. From the prominent members of EAA Sambit Tripathy, Subham Sahoo and Ashish Choudhury coordinated the camp. After the successful camp, the boarders of East Hostel went through the Ravenshaw University campus in a procession.
