Bhubaneswar Durga Puja 2023: A grand celebration with Kedarnath Temple-themed pandal

Bhubaneswar: In the vibrant city of Bhubaneswar, the VSS Nagar Durga Puja committee is gearing up for an extravagant celebration of Durga Puja 2023, showcasing a breathtaking Kedarnath Temple-themed pandal. This year’s pandal is set to stand an impressive 50 feet tall, a testament to the artistic vision and craftsmanship that will adorn the festivity.

The committee has entrusted skilled artists from Kolkata to undertake the construction work, ensuring that the pandal exudes an aura of grandeur and devotion that befits the occasion. Their expertise promises to bring the intricacies of Kedarnath Temple to life within the confines of the pandal.

The Durga Puja in VSS Nagar has been an integral part of the community for 45 years, ever since its inception in 1978. The roots of this celebration trace back to the founding of VSS Nagar by the Odisha Housing Board in 1977, following the successful completion of its housing project.

Interestingly, the journey of this revered Puja began with a modest budget of just Rs 5 in 1978. Over the years, it has blossomed into a grand event, with the committee allocating a budget of Rs 14 lakh for Durga Puja 2023. This substantial budget reflects the growing devotion and dedication of the community towards upholding this sacred tradition.

The central attraction of the Puja remains the magnificent 18-feet high idol of Goddess Durga, adorned with a regal silver crown. The spiritual ambiance is enhanced by the unique traditional offerings to the Goddess—Khechidi & Dalema on Ashtami and Dahi Pakhal & Saga Bhaja on Dashami—bringing a distinctive flavor to the celebrations.

Speaking about the milestone year, committee chairman Shital Chandra Mohanty remarked, “This year, we’re joyously celebrating 45 years of Durga Puja at VSS Nagar. We strongly believe in fostering a sense of brotherhood, and all the residents of VSS Nagar Colony come together, extending their helping hands and contributing financially to ensure the success of this auspicious Puja.”
