Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Purendra Kumar Sethy, a Record Supplier at the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha today. Sethy was apprehended under the charges of possessing disproportionate assets that far exceed his known sources of income.
The arrest came following extensive searches conducted on multiple properties owned by Sethy. During the raids, Vigilance officials uncovered a multi-storeyed building spanning 10,880 square feet in Bhubaneswar, along with several other valuable assets.
The properties and assets uncovered include:
- A multi-storeyed building covering an area of 10,880 square feet in Bhubaneswar.
- Bank deposits amounting to Rs. 16.77 lakhs.
- Cash amounting to Rs. 1.70 lakhs.
- Two four-wheelers.
Additionally, officials discovered 16 benami RORs (Record of Rights), or Land Pattas of various sizes for different plots, which are currently under verification. The total value of the properties and assets seized is substantially higher than what Sethy could account for with his known sources of income.
Despite being given an opportunity to explain the source of his wealth, Sethy failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the disproportionate assets. As a result, he was placed under arrest and is set to be presented in court today, said the Vigilance.
The case against Sethy has been registered under Vigilance Cell Police Station Case No. 10/2024. This case marks another step in the ongoing efforts by Odisha Vigilance to curb corruption and bring public servants involved in illicit activities to justice.
