Phulbani and Talcher govt medical colleges get approval for 200 MBBS seats

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has achieved another significant milestone in the field of medical education, with two more government medical colleges receiving approval for MBBS admissions.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 200 MBBS seats—100 each for Phulbani Government Medical College and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College, Talcher.
These colleges will commence academic operations from the 2025–26 session, marking a major expansion in the state’s medical education capacity.
Welcoming the approval, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said:“This is a proud moment for Odisha. With over 200 additional MBBS seats, we are making a significant stride in healthcare education. From this academic year itself, more than 200 Odia students will have the opportunity to pursue medical education and serve the people.”
Shortly after the announcement, the Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation on social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter):
“On behalf of the people of Odisha, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Shri @JPNadda ji as the National Medical Commission has approved 100 MBBS seats each for Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College, Talcher and Government Medical College Phulbani, Kandhamal from the academic year 2025-26.
This landmark step will open new avenues in medical education and further strengthen healthcare services in Angul, Kandhamal, and across Odisha, ensuring wider access to affordable and quality healthcare for our people.”

Since assuming office, the new state government has placed a renewed focus on upgrading both health services and medical education infrastructure. This latest development, according to the Chief Minister, reflects the success of those ongoing efforts.
The addition of two fully functional government medical colleges is expected to enhance access to quality medical education, particularly in Angul and Kandhamal districts, while helping meet the increasing demand for skilled healthcare professionals across Odisha.
