Rourkela aircraft accident situation under close watch: Usha Padhee

Rourkela: The State Government is closely monitoring the situation following the aircraft accident that occurred on January 10 in the Jalda area of Rourkela, said Odisha Transport Secretary Usha Padhee.

Padhee visited the accident site and reviewed the situation on the ground in coordination with the district administration, police authorities, and officials of concerned departments. She assessed the rescue operations, medical response, and safety measures initiated immediately after the incident.

She stated that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the developments and has issued clear directions to ensure prompt medical assistance, logistical support, and coordinated administrative action for all affected persons.

“All necessary arrangements have been made on priority,” Padhee said.

A two-member medical team has been deputed to continuously monitor the condition of the injured, and emergency medical facilities have been activated at the district level.

According to officials, the two injured persons—Savita Agrawal and Sunil Agrawal—were airlifted to Mumbai for advanced medical treatment at their own request . Their condition is stable and out of danger, with no threat to life.

Teams from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) have been facilitated for inspection and investigation at the site.

The Transport Secretary continues to remain in close coordination with all concerned agencies to ensure effective management of the situation and strict adherence to safety protocols.

An India One Air aircraft (Caravan 208) bearing registration VT-KSS, operating a scheduled flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela, departed at 12:27 hrs on January 10 with two pilots and four passengers on board. About 8 nautical miles short of Rourkela, the aircraft made a force landing near Jalda.
The Government of Odisha, under the overall supervision of the Chief Minister, is closely monitoring the situation. The Chief Minister has directed all concerned departments to extend full medical, logistical, and administrative support to the passengers, pilots, and investigating authorities.

The Minister, Commerce & Transport, the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary are continuously overseeing and coordinating the response. A control room has been established at the Directorate of Civil Aviation for effective coordination and information dissemination.
On receipt of information, the district administration promptly reached the site and shifted all occupants to medical facilities at Rourkela.

All six occupants were admitted to JP Hospital, Rourkela, and kept under close medical observation. As per the latest health bulletin, two injured passengers were airlifted to Mumbai for advanced medical treatment at their own request; both are stable and out of danger. The remaining patients (2 pilots and 2 passengers) and continue to be under medical supervision at JP Hospital and are stable.

The incident was immediately reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation, and other concerned authorities. The Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport Department along with teams from DGCA and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), visited the accident site to review the situation and assess rescue operations, medical response, and safety measures in coordination with the district administration and police authorities.

It is reiterated that all necessary arrangements have been made on priority and that the State Government remains in close coordination with DGCA, AAIB, and the concerned airline to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols.
Two officers from the Directorate of Civil Aviation, Odisha, have been deputed to Rourkela for on-ground coordination with all stakeholders.

To facilitate timely investigation and advanced medical care, the State Government has extended comprehensive logistical support, including deployment of a State helicopter for movement of investigation teams and senior specialist doctors from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. Senior officials of the Directorate of Aviation are stationed at Rourkela and are providing all necessary on-ground support to the district administration.
As reported by India One Air airline today, operations on the Jaypore and Rourkela sectors remain normal.
The Government of Odisha reiterates its commitment to the prompt medical care for affected persons, and full coordination with the Government of India agencies with the ongoing investigation.
