SUM Hospital Owner Manoj Nayak Arrested

Bhubaneswar: A day after the Commissionerate Police issued a Look Out Circular against SUM Hospital owner Manoj Nayak in connection with deaths of 21 patients in fire mishap, he surrendered before the police on Thursday.

Nayak surrendered before the Khandagiri police in the early hours of Thursday. Later, he was arrested.

Director General of Police KB Singh said, “We have arrested him on Thursday after he surrendered before police at about 3.30 am. He will be produced before court today and would likely to seek his remand.”

Police had issued Look Out Circular against Manoj Nayak and his wife Saswati Das on Wednesday. Both are the trustees of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Charitable Trust, which runs the hospital.

However, the police are yet to get any information whereabouts of Das.

The state government has already lodged two FIRs against the hospital management citing negligence in terms of fire safety and evacuation of patients during the mishap.

Police Commissioner YB Khurania said the police would interrogate all the trustees of the institution.

He also did not rule out that more persons would be arrested for their connection with the death of 21 persons in the hospital fire mishap.
