Cyclonic Storm Intensifying Over Bay Of Bengal; No Threat To Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression on Thursday. It is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hours and subsequently into a cyclonic storm.

However, the cyclonic storm is likely to have less impact on Odisha.

“The system is very likely to move initially northwestwards during next 24 hours and then recurve northeastwards towards Bangladesh coast during subsequent 48 hours. It is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hrs and subsequently into a cyclonic storm,” said a bulletin of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur at most places over coastal Odisha and at a few places over interior Odisha. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, said the bulletin.

With the depression intensifying into a cyclonic storm, the Bhubaneswar Met department has hoisted Distant Cautionary Signal Number One (DC-I) at all ports in Odisha.

“Surface wind speed from Northeasterly direction with speed 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition would be rough to very rough,” it added.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. Fishermen out at sea are advised to return to the coasts.
