Former OCA secretary Ashirbad Behera arrested by CBI in chit fund scam

Cuttack: Former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera was on Thursday arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over his alleged complicity in the Artha Tatwa chit fund scam.

CBI officials had raided the residence of Behera here early this morning. Kamalakanta Das, owner of a hotel, has also been arrested by the central investigating agency for his alleged involvement in the chit fund scam.

CBI SP J.N. Rana informed that Ashirbad Behera has been arrested on the basis of a non-bailable warrant issued by the court.

He also informed that the CBI would not move for remand as the former OCA secretary has been arrested on the basis of the warrant.

Notably, the CBI had last month filed a supplementary charge-sheet against the two under relevant sections of IPC and Prize Chits & Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

Earlier, Ashirbad Behera was questioned by the CBI.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Behera, son of Ashirbad Behera, alleged conspiracy against his father.

“Since I am contesting the Odisha Cricket Association election, some influential people are trying to put pressure on me by arresting my father. I will definitely file the nomination on Friday and win the election,” said Behera.
