Investigation starts into Al Qaeda terrorist’s links 


BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police of Odisha have launched an investigation into the links of suspected Al Qaeda terrorist Abdul Rahman with some Information Technology (IT) experts including some Odias in Bengaluru.

Rehman was arrested from Cuttack on December 16 in a joint operation by Odisha police and Delhi police. Presently, Rehman is in Delhi police custody.

“We believe that Rehman had links with some persons from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bengaluru in Karnataka,” said police commissioner RP Sharma.suspected Al Qaeda terrorist Abdul Rehman

Earlier, Sharma had said Abdur Rehman had met Mohammed Asif in Bangalore, who was arrested from Delhi.

Earlier, Asif had received a message from a Pakistani Al Qaeda coordinator in which he had been asked to discuss with Rahman for recruitments.

Rehman, who was also believed in touch with Mohammad Kafeel, a Bengaluru youth who died while unsuccessfully trying to blow up the Glasgow Airport building in 2007, police said.

Meanwhile, Odisha police have sent two special squads to Delhi and Jharkhand to gather more information about the activities of Rehman.

It is to be noted that the Jharkhand police had earlier warned Rehman for delivering inflammatory speeches in the neighbouring state.
