Polavaram issue: BJD to hold hartal in undivided Koraput

BHUBANESWAR: The ruling BJD on Saturday announced to hold hartal in undivided Koraput district on January 7 protesting against the construction of Polavaram irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh.

The party announced to hold a mass demonstration before Raj Bhawan in the capital city and ‘hartal’ in the undivided Koraput district on January 7 this year.

The party would hold hartal in undivided Koraput district (Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur) protesting against the Polavaram project, senior BJD leader and Industry Minister Debi Prasad Mishra told reporters here.

He demanded to stop construction work until the Supreme Court verdict comes out over the controversial Polavaram project issue.

The essential services like ambulance service and medicine stores will remain unaffected during the day-long hartal.
