Congress to move HC over NFSA irregularities in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Congress has decided to knock the door of Orissa High Court over irregularities in distribution of ration cards under National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Odisha.

Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati said a public interest litigation (PIL) would be filed in the court over the bungling in ration card distributions to people and not following the guidelines prescribed in the Act.Congress, BJP to move HC over NFSA irregularities in Odisha

“The ruling BJD has only distributed ration cards to its party members to keep intact the vote bank. It has ignored the eligible beneficiaries,” said Bahinipati.

He pointed out that the government had failed to come out with a flawless beneficiary list and manage to implement the Act only partially.

While many eligible beneficiaries were excluded from the list, some rich people loyal to the ruling party were included in the list. The norm for the selection of the beneficiaries was violated throughout the process, he added.

BJP is also planning to move court over the alleged irregularities in the NFSA implementation in Odisha.

Accusing the Odisha government of violating the norms in the distribution of ration cards, senior BJP leader Manmohan Samal said the party would move the court after holding a discussion with party leadership.
