Man Gets 10-year Jail For Raping Minor In Angul

ANGUL: A local court in Odisha’s Angul district has awarded 10-year jail term to Sabir Ali (48) of Rengali after convicting him of raping a minor girl.

The District and Sessions Court, Angul also imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 on the convict. He would undergo an additional two years of jail term if he fails to deposit the amount, the court ruled.

According to the case diary, the incident occurred on December 5, 2014. The victim’s father worked at a power grid. On the fateful night, a power-grid vehicle gave lift to the girl while she was returning home from tuition classes.

Sabir, who was also present in the vehicle, raped girl after the driver left to drink water. He threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. After reaching home, the girl narrated her ordeal before her parents.

The police arrested Sabir after the family lodged a complaint with the police.
