BHUBANESWAR: The local and inter-city buses will have dustbins from Wednesday onwards to collect the commuters’ garbage within the buses to prevent dengue in the capital city.
The idea was mooted by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). The initiative is meant to stop dengue spreading its tentacles in the city.
OSRTC staffers will also make an announcement at the terminal to dump garbage only in the dustbin and not on the premises, said an official.
The BMC officials have already warned 132 shops at Baramunda bus stand to install dustbins compulsorily to dump the garbage in it. OSRTC has also agreed to let the municipality construct a drain at Baramunda bus terminus to resolve the water-logging problem there.
