BHUBANESWAR: Leader of opposition Narasingh Mishra on Wednesday said the all-party meeting convened to discuss the Mahanadi water issue was successful.
He said it was decided at the meeting to constitute a joint committee, which will decide next course of action over the construction of barrages in the upper catchment of Mahanadi river by Chhattisgarh government.
The joint committee will be formed within a week. It will submit a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir on August 1, Mishra informed.
The ruling BJD and Samajwadi Party did not attend the all-party meeting on Wednesday.
The leader of opposition also demanded the state government to publish a white paper on the Mahanadi project issue.
He also advised the state government to keep its demand before the Union government for constituting a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water issue.
