Pollution Board Issues Closure Notice To 5 Balasore Hotels

BALASORE: The regional officer of pollution control board in Balasore has issued a closer notice to five hotels in the district for noncompliance of direction.

Among the five hotels, while two each are in Balasore town and Chandipur, one is located at Bhograi, said Prakash Mohapatra, the regional pollution control board officer.

Mohapatra informed that as many as 43 hotels of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj, out of total 49, were issued notices for violation of pollution norms.

The hotels were issued notices following the direction of National Green Tribunal in 2015.

While some have complied with the norms, some hotels have approached the court, he added.

In Balasore, five hotels including a Pantha Niwas of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) didn’t comply with the requirement.

Mohapatra said the hotels were served notices for not obtaining prior permission of the pollution control board and not making adequate arrangement for waste water treatment.

On the other hand, the manager of Pantha Niwas, RK Bej said “We have installed a treatment plant after receipt of notice from the pollution board in September. After its trail run, the certificate would be deposited with it as compliance.”
