Bhubaneswar: Considering the huge demand for marine products in other countries, Odisha government is planning to participate in the trade fairs being organized overseas to boost export of the products.
The marine products of Odisha enjoys significant demand from South East Asian countries including China and Japan. Besides, the marine products has demand in the UK, USA and UAE, said an official of MSME department.
He said participation in different fairs could boost trade relation of Odisha with the countries.
The department would take the matter to the Fisheries Department and Directorate of Export, Promotion, and Marketing to participate in the trade fairs.
Recently, the Odisha government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with World Trade Centre (WTC), Mumbai to promote and strengthen the export activities of the state. WTC would promote the state in foreign countries.
The state government exported 37,867.5 tonne of marine food products in the 2015-16 financial year against 34,800 tonne in 14-15 financial year.
The government has projected an export target of Rs.38,714 crore by 2022-23 at an annual growth rate of 10 percent.
