Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday proposed the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to set up a medical college and hospital, a cement factory and a skill development centre in Sundargarh district.
SAIL has a steel plant in Rourkela in the district. The central PSU is eyeing to enhance the capacity of the plant to 10 million tonne per annum within a period of 10 to 15 years. The capacity of the RSP has already been doubled from 2 MT to 4.5 MT per year.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik proposed SAIL chairman P K Singh to set up a medical college, cement factory and the skill development centre that would benefit the people in the area.
The meeting also discussed various issues relating to the Rourkela Steel Plant. The meeting was also attended by top officers from both the state government and SAIL.
During his visit to Rourkela in April 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to upgrade Ispat General Hospital (IGH) run by SAIL into a super specialty hospital.
Singh said the upgradation process of the IGH is on, and they are working on to develop it a super specialty hospital.
He also said that the production of Rourkela Steel Plant would be enhanced to 10 million tonne per annum within a period of 10 to 15 years.
“As part of the Centre’s initiative to produce nearly 300 million tonne per annum steel in the country in next ten years, the capacity of the Rourkela steel plant would also be augmented,” Singh said.
