Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Wednesday said that she would hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of Odisha and Chhattisgarh to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute.
The meeting between the two Chief Ministers would be convened on a mutually convenient date between September 10 and 20 at New Delhi to ensure that no injustice is done to Odisha, said Bharti.
She made the statement after holding a meeting with a BJP delegation from Odisha. The delegation was led by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday.
Bharti said that a meeting was called by her Ministry on July 29 this year at New Delhi which was attended by officials from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
After this, she made a statement in Parliament according to which both the states had to exchange information with each other on the issue.
The Water Resources Minister said that she had directed the officials of her Ministry to complete this task of information exchange at the earliest.
“She assured that Interest of Odisha will not be compromised & directed officials to complete Information Exchange bw #Odisha & #CG ASAP,” tweeted Pradhan.
He said the Odisha government must take quick decision to form a Joint Control Board and act proactively to safeguard the interests of the state and its people.
