Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has decided not to celebrate his 71st birthday on Sunday as a mark of respect to the martyr jawans who sacrificed their lives while fighting against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
“In memory of Amar Shahids who made supreme sacrifices in fighting terrorism, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decides not to celebrate his birthday this year which falls tomorrow,” said a communication received from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The Chief Minister has asked his supporters and well-wishers not to organize any function to celebrate his birthday.
He also requested his party men and supporters not to visit his residence Naveen Nivas to greet him.
Patnaik was born at Cuttack on October 16, 1946.
The Chief Minister did not celebrate his birthday in 2015 following a mishap where 11 students were injured due to the bursting of a gas balloon cylinder on a party procession. He did not celebrate his birthday in 2011, 2013 and 2014 due to various natural calamities including cyclone and flood.
