SUM Hospital Fire Mishap Death Toll Increases To 26


Bhubaneswar: The SUM hospital fire mishap death toll increased to 26 with one more patient died at Apollo hospital here on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Kartikeswar Das of GGP colony in Rasulgarh area of Bhubaneswar.

Following the fire mishap, the patient was shifted to Apollo Hospital on Monday evening. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, said a health official.

While two persons succumbed to their injuries on Friday, two others died on Thursday.

Annapurna Samantaroy of Bhandarikuda village under Brahmagiri town of Puri district died at AMRI hospital here and Sheikh Qurban of Khurda undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital died on Friday, said the official.

On Thursday night, Biswanath Behera of Dumduma area in Bhubaneswar and Rashmita Swain of Balipada area in Puri also died. Two more injured persons had succumbed to injuries earlier in the week.

19 patients had died on Monday when the fire mishap took place in the hospital.

As many as 106 patients were shifted to different hospitals following the major fire that broke out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the dialysis ward at SUM hospital on Monday evening.
