Two KISS Students Win Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2016 Awards

Bhubaneswar: Two tribal students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) are among the national-level winners of the prestigious Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2016 Awards.

The two are among the 30 winners out of the 59,400 ideas and projects received by National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF), an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology.

NIF declares the annual awards on October 15, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, also celebrated as the Children’s Creativity and Innovation Day.

Dhanurjaya Dehury, a student of Class-8 of KISS, was selected for the awards for his innovation, “Pedal operated vegetable cutting machine”. Sebati Kutruka, also a Class-8 student, bagged the award for her project, “Machine to dig out sweet potato”. They will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan on November 7.

Dhanurjaya is a tribal boy from Koira locality in Sundargarh district, while Sebati is from Bissam Cuttack from Rayagada district. They will leave for New Delhi on 5th November while, Dr. P. K Das, Director, and Sushanta Kumar Swain, Headmaster, KISS will accompany the students.

Expressing his happiness over the success of KISS students, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, tribal students are second to none if they are given proper care and quality education. These two students have shown their talent at national-level, which is a great achievement not only for KISS but for the entire tribal community. Dr. Samanta congratulated both the students and their guide teachers for their success.
