Mad Rush At Jewellery Shops On Dhanteras

Bhubaneswar: A huge rush was witnessed at markets and jewelry shops in Bhubaneswar and other cities of Odisha as people celebrated Dhanteras on Friday.

Thousands of people, especially women, were found flocking at various jewelry shops to buy diamond, gold, silver and other metals. People were also seen thronging to markets to buy electronic items and utensils.

There is a popular belief that buying gold and silver on this “auspicious” day brings prosperity.

Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi falls on the 13th day of the lunar phase or Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu month of Kartik. While Dhan means “wealth”, Trayodashi means the “13th day”.

In order to attract customers, the merchants have floated several schemes. Jewelers in an attempt to attract more customers offered attractive schemes and 100 per cent discount in making charges.
