Special team formed to probe Rishi murder case

Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police has formed a special team to probe the mysterious death of engineering student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi.

The police, which had earlier registered an unnatural death, will investigate the murder angle after the family members of Rishi demanded re-opening of the case after a sex video went viral in social media.

The family members suspect that sex scandal video tape has links with Rishi’s death and demanded an impartial probe into the entire incident.

DCP Satyabrat Bhoi said the special team will be headed by ACP (zone-3) Tapan Patnaik.

“All friends of the deceased’s including his girl friend and roommates and others who were closely associated with him will be summoned for interrogation,” said Bhoi.

Meanwhile, the State BJP has called for ‘chaka Jam’ stir at all urban bodies across the state for two hours on Monday over the sex scandal case of BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

Dubbing the allegation against the Mayor serious, Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan said a through probe can unearth the truth.

“The charges against the Mayor would be considered grave if it is based on specific evidence. Rishi’s death has raised much suspicion. Local probe agency seems to have given less emphasis to the case and attempted to suppress it”, Pradhan said.
